We are back from HUNGARY
N&K November 2004
Just back from a whirlwind trip to Hungary. Our first time there and it was enjoyable and interesting. A great place for a long weekend, especially with the good deals on flights.
Stayed at the Marriott which has fantastic views of the Danube and was very comfortable, although a Marriott is a Marriott is a Marriott….. Went to the Christmas Market which was quite fun, although not as big as we had expected. The whole area smelled of the mulled wine on sale in lots of stalls, made with white wine and not as sweet as we make it in the UK – delightful on a cold day.
Looking forward to returning to Hungary in the summer months when it is green.

Advice on flights was good and we liked the private airport transfers. Our hotel was a friendly, standard 3-star but the room was too hot even with the radiator off and was noisy as we overlooked the street.
We had an excellent tour guide on the City Tour and the tour was extremely useful.
Concerts – the National Concert Hall is WONDERFUL. Very comfortable and fantastic acoustics. Vengerov was magnificent. We have seen a lot of concerts – this was the best. Barenboim was ill and we did not fancy the substitute so went to a concert by a 100-piece Gypsy Orchestra, which was entertaining – though enough was enough.
You provided all the information we needed in order to enjoy the weekend.
Shellseekers were wonderful!
