Luxurious Island Hopping Nosy Be and Nosy Iranja

Experience the remoteness of Madagascar with a touch of luxury. Palm fringed white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters await you on the islands of Nosy Be and Nosy Iranja. You will be staying in two of the most exclusive lodges Madagascar has to offer while enjoying Madagascar's friendly atmosphere and sunshine. Relax at the pool or take a swim in the warm Indian Ocean. Both Lodges have additionally exciting activities and excursions on offer

Day 1
Nosy Be. Arrival at Nosy Be and road and boat transfer to the Amarina Hotel. Along the north-west coast of Madagascar lies a number of islands, the largest of which is Nosy Be. Nosy Be is the hub of Madagascar's tourism with something for everyone. It offers marvelous beaches and coral reefs in a National Protected area, a natural lemur reserve, wonderful fishing and numerous nearby islands. The air is filled with the fragrance of vanilla, ylang ylang, flamboyant, saffron and many other spices.

Day 2-3
Nosy Be. Leisure days at the hotel. Pedalos, kayaks, canoes and snorkelling equipment are at your disposal. The Amarina has its own dive and watersports centre; or you can try for tuna, swordfish, bonito or marlin game-fishing from the well-equipped and expertly staffed fishing boat. There are also many small islands and rocks that may constitute perfect refuges for tourists wanting to isolate themselves in total privacy. The inner part of the island is covered partly by tropical forest and partly by ylang-ylang and spices. The best excursions are to Lokobe Natural Reserve, where macaco lemurs, chameleons, varied birdlife and a few boa constrictors live, and to Mont Passot from where you will have a view of the volcanic lakes and the archipelago islands.

Day 1
Arrival Nosy Be. You will be met by the Skipper, tour guide and captain of the dhow, and transferred to the Bed & Breakfast in the tiny fishing village of Madirokely.  This is set on a long beach with spectacular views, overlooking the sea. Explore the restaurants and nightlife at your own leisure and own expense.

Day 2
Ankazoberevina and Camp at Russian Bay. An early start prepares you for the crossing to Russian Bay (also known as Ambavatory Bay). You leave the port of Hell-Ville stopping off for lunch on the island of Ankazoberevina.  Snorkeling over the soft corals with their vivid colours, will prove to be an awe-inspiring experience around this little island. With a bit of luck, you may be able to spot the ring-tailed Lemurs while stepping on to Terre Firma.  Moving on to Russian Bay, a fine shelter for boats in the cyclone season, you set up camp on a vast and desolate beach.

Day 3-4
Nosy Iranja. Sail 14 miles to Nosy Iranja (Island of Turtles) which lies south west of Nosy Be consisting of two islands, the larger and inhabited Nosy Iranja Be and the smaller Nosy Iranja Kely. The islands are connected by a 1.5 km long sand bar, negotiable on foot at low tide. You set up camp and enjoy the last of dusk from pristine white sands for the next two evenings after 2 enjoyable days of sailing, snorkeling and fishing.

Day 5
Kismani/ Nosy Tanikely. Turn the Dhow’s bow around early this morning, ensuring adequate time to head for Tanikely (The Small Island). Depending upon the prevailing winds and tide, the aim is to camp on this tiny island, alternatively anchoring off Kismani, should conditions not allow.

Day 6
Nosy Tanikely, Lokobe. You set sail to Nosy Tanikely (located only a few miles south of Nosy Be), a marine reserve teeming with underwater flora and fauna, allowing you the chance for some superb snorkeling in warm waters with great visibility. After lunch, make your leisurely way to a deserted beach encompassed by the Lokobe reserve where you set camp for the next 2 nights.

Day 7
Lokobe, Nosy Komba. After an easy morning and a hearty breakfast, set sail for a day excursion to Nosy Komba. Boots on, laces up, it's time to explore some of the numerous tracks connecting the villages in the interior of the island in the pursuit of the semi-tame black Lemurs. The afternoon is spent snorkeling around the islets off Nosy Komba such as Nosy Verona where you may encounter turtles, pipefish, angelfish, grouper or parrotfish amongst others. We return to our camp on Lokobe.
