The Indian sub-continent is one of the most stimulating destinations in the world. From its multi-layered human history and mélange of cultures to its spectrum of wild habitats rich with exotic animals, India offers an intense experience of all that makes adventure travel captivating. Natural Habitat Adventures’ Indian safari focuses on northeast India’s natural realm renowned for its dramatic rivers, fabled jungles and profuse big game. Travel India on elephant back and jeep and enjoy a Brahmaputra River cruise while in search of tigers and one-horned rhinoceros. Eco tourism has been integral to conservation efforts in India, and our adventure travels directly benefit the continued existence of some of the world’s most precious vanishing species.

A very important feature of our Indian safari is the limited group size, as an eco tour is best experienced with smaller sized groups.

2009 Dates
Feb 16 - Mar 1

Days 1 & 2: Delhi, India

Upon arrival, you will be transferred to our hotel. The afternoon is free to explore Delhi or just relax. A mix of four major religions, thousands of years of cultural development, invasions and colonization, Delhi is one of the most vibrant cities in the world.

Days 2 - 5: Kaziranga National Park

Fly to Guwahati and then drive to Kaziranga National Park located on the Brahmaputra River in northeast Indian state of Assam. Here we’ll spend four nights at the new Diphlu River Lodge. Kaziranga is the last main refuge for the one horned rhinoceros. Once hunted nearly to extinction, this two-ton beast is a conservation success story, rebounding to more than 1,600 today - although it is still a target of poachers seeking the horn for medicinal purposes.  Along with rhino we may see elephant, swamp deer, hog deer, wild boar, Hoolock gibbon and jungle cats as we safari by jeep. Waterfowl flourish, including egrets, pond herons, black-necked stork, fishing eagles and pelicans. Otters and Gangetic dolphins live in the river. There will also be an opportunity to explore the grasslands on elephant back.

Day 6: Kaziranga / Delhi

Transfer to Guwahati for flight to Delhi. Upon arrival, we will transfer to the Oberoi Hotel. The afternoon will be at leisure.

Day 7: Kanha Tiger Reserve

Fly to Nagpur and drive to Singinawa Jungle Lodge in the heart of Kanha Tiger Reserve. The park offers India’s best tiger viewing, as well as chital, sambar, common langur, gaur (Indian bison), sloth bear, Asiatic jackal, wolf, dhole (wild dog), and the occasional leopard. It is also home to the world’s last population of the hard ground swamp deer. Once the preferred hunting grounds for imperial rulers and viceroys, Kanha is now one of India’s critical wildlife reserves.

Days 8 - 10: Kanha National Park

Our explorations include game drives in open 4 X 4 jeeps and trips on elephant back. (Elephant rides cannot be guaranteed as they depend on the successful tracking of the tiger by the mahouts). At the end of each day, we retire to the superb comforts of our lodge.

Day 11: Kanha / Delhi

Fly to Delhi and again transfer to the Oberoi Hotel where the afternoon will be at your leisure. The hotel offers many amenities including a spa and fitness center and is centrally located near business and shopping districts. It is also located next to the tomb of the Emperor Humayun, a World Heritage Site.

Day 12: Delhi / Agra / Taj Mahal

We transfer in the early morning to the railway station to board the Taj Express to Agra. Here we will explore the equisite Taj Mahal, a mausoleum built by Shah Jahan for his favorite wife. A World Heritage Site, the Taj Mahal is considered to be the finest example of Mughal architecture and one of the most beautiful and recognizable structures in the world.

Day 13: Taj Mahal / Fatehpur Sikri

We return to the Taj Mahal to watch the sunrise and then drive to the ancient Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri where we will enjoy a guided tour. In the afternoon we return to Agra.

Day 14: Agra / Delhi

After breakfast we will drive back to Delhi where day rooms have been arranged for your convenience prior to boarding your international flight.
