Classic Costa Rica

 

This is an excellent introduction to Costa Rica.

Prices are based on 2 people but it works perfectly for a family or friends travelling together. Dates are to suit you.

 

Day 1
You will be met on arrival at San Jose airport and transferred to your hotel, the Alta Hotel. Located in the exclusive area of Alto de las Palomas, Escazu, this boutique hotel has only 23 rooms and suites all with balconies with a view to the Valley of the Sun or over private tropical gardens. The hotel has a large range of facilities, including a swimming pool, spa and fitness centre. The restaurant is one of the best in San Jose. Accommodation is in a deluxe room.

Day 2
Breakfast. Doka coffee tour and La Paz Waterfall gardens. The day tour includes lunch. Overnight at the Alta Hotel.

Day 3
San Jose to Tortuguero. After an early breakfast, you drive through the spectacular rain forests of Braulio Carrillo National Park (just 30 minutes from San Jose). Board a boat specially designed for canal navigation for a 2-hour trip through the canals of the Tortuguero area. Lunch. Afternoon at leisure to experience local culture and visit some of the area's wonderful natural attractions. There are fascinating trails to walk, or you can relax in a hammock.

Overnight at Mawamba Lodge. This is set in beautiful gardens and situated on a sand bar between the Tortuguero canals and the Caribbean Sea. With 54 comfortable rooms, this is an excellent base for exploring the canals in riverboats or just enjoying the beach and swimming pool.

Day 4
A day to relax at Tortuguero and enjoy the bird, animal and plant life. Taking a boat to Tortuguero Hill or National Park, you can enjoy a hiking trip along the trails. Return to the lodge for lunch, before an afternoon boat trip on the canal. Plenty of time to relax. Overnight Mamamba Lodge.

Day 5
Tortuguero to the Arenal Area. Early breakfast and a boat transfer back to meet your private vehicle which will transfer you from the Guapiles area to San Carlos. San Carlos is a beautiful area with forests, lagoons, fields of crops, rivers with hot springs and the most active volcano in Costa Rica at Arenal.

Overnight at Arenal Manoa Hotel in a standard room. This new hotel is located between Arenal La Fortuna and the Arenal Lake in a quiet location. It has 66 rooms, all with modern facilities such as air conditioning, satellite TV, safe, refrigerator etc. Enjoy the view of the volcano whilst sipping a drink by one of the two swimming pools. A farming tour is included in the room rate.

Day 6
After breakfast, take the Arenal Hanging Bridges tour. Time for lunch, before visiting the Volcano and Tabacon Hot springs - this includes dinner.

Overnight Arenal Manoa Hotel.

Day 7
Arenal to Rincon de lal Vieja. After breakfast you will have a private transfer to Rincon de la Vieja which is located in the North Pacific Mountains. V

Overnight at Borinquen Resort in a standard villa. This resort is located on the slopes of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. It has 33 bungalows and villas, some with a terrace. Once again, the rooms have all necessary facilities such as air conditioning, cable tv, telephone, hairdryer and mini bar. As well as two restaurants and a swimming pool, there is a natural hot spring pool, gym, sauna and spa. A wide selection of activities and eco-expeditions are available from this charming hotel.

Day 8
After breakfast, a shared tour to Rincon de la Vieja National Park.
Overnight at Borinquen Resort.

 

Day 9
Rincon de la Vieja to Monteverde. After breakfast, you have a private road transfer to Monteverde. The town of Monteverde is at the Southern end of the Cloud Forest and had its beginnings in the early 1950s when a group of Quakers came from the USA, attracted by Costa Rica's stance on peace. They established themselves in this area and are now famous for milk and quality cheeses.

Overnight at Fonda Vela Hotel in a Junior suite room. This hotel is only 20 minutes from Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and has a serene forest location. The hotel only has 38 rooms, in nine separate buildings. Once again, they are comfortable and well equipped.

Day 10
After breakfast, depart on a visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the area or take an optional tour. Night at Fonda Vela Hotel.

Day 11
Monteverde to Manuel Antonio. Breakfast and then a private transfer to Manuel Antonio, which is located on the Central Pacific Coast.

Overnight at Arenas del Mar Hotel in a superior room. Arenas del Mar is a beach and nature resort located next to Manuel Antonio National Park. Arenas del Mar offers a luxurious lodging experience in harmony with nature in a spectacular beach and rainforest setting. Rooms offer spectacular ocean views, whilst the two hotel restaurants specialise in fresh local products.

Day 12
A day at leisure at Manuel Antonio Beach. Overnight at Arenas del Mar Hotel.

Day 13
Breakfast at the hotel before a private transfer back to San Jose. Overnight at Alta Hotel in a deluxe room.

Day 14
Breakfast and then a private transfer back to the International Airport for your departing flight.
