KERALA SPICE COAST TOUR

14 DAYS  15 NIGHTS

 

Day 1: Arrive Kochi (Cochin)

  • Arrive at Kochi international airport
  • Welcome upon arrival
  • Transfer to the Hotel
  • Overnight at the hotel
 
Arrive at Kochi International airport this afternoon / evening. Welcome to India!!
 
Meeting and assistance upon arrival at the airport. As soon as you come out from the main hall after you clear all formalities of custom and immigrations, transfer to Hotel by an air-conditioned car.
 
Kerala is a green strip of land, in the South West corner of India. It has only 1.1 8 per cent of the total area of the country but houses 3.43% of the country's population. In 1956, when the states were reorganized, Kerala was formed after tying the princely states of Travancore and Cochin with Malabar, a province under Madras state.

Kerala may be divided into three geographical regions: (1) High lands, (2) Midlands and (3) Lowlands. The Highlands slope down from the Western Ghats which rise to an average height of 900 m, with a number of peaks well over 1,800 m in height. This is the area of major plantations like tea, coffee, rubber, cardamom and other spices.

 

DAY 2: In Kochi

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • City tour of Cochin
  • Kathakali dance performance
  • Overnight at hotel
 
Breakfast is at the hotel. Morning half day city tour of Kochi.
 
This evening enjoy Kerala's fascinating art form, at a Kathakali Dance Centre, where you will witness the 'Kathakali', a special dance form of Kerala, with its origins in the 'Theyyam', a ritual tribal dance of North Kerala and 'kalariyapattu', the martial arts practised by the high-caste Nayars. The striking and unique feature of this dance form is the art of putting make up and complete control of facial muscular movement and expressions. The Kathakali performers begin to train for their art at a young age, and their study continues for a lifetime.
 
Overnight stay at the hotel.
 
 

Day 3: In Kochi

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Later proceed for a full day village tour with the picnic Lunch
  • Evening enjoy dinner and cooking demonstration
  • Overnight at hotel
 
Breakfast at the hotel.  After breakfast proceed on a full day Village & Backwater tour with traditional Kerala Thali Meal. Drive towards Vaikom-Kottayam and reach Poothotta - a fisherman's village.
 
Visit coir and coconut farm -spices garden like Black pepper-coffee-cashew nut, coco, pineapple, Nut meg-Beatle nut etc.
 
Enjoy Traditional (KeralaThali Meals) lunch on Banana leaves in a traditional House.
 
After lunch visit Local Markets.  The markets offer jute, fibre, coir carpet weaving, pottery, Coconut oil extraction, Khadi Handloom weaving etc.  Return to your hotel.
 
This evening pick up from the Hotel and proceed for dinner and cooking demonstration at an Indian home.  See the meal being cooked, and then enjoy eating the food!  Return to the Hotel for an overnight stay. 
 
 

Day 4: Kochi Munnar (Drive: 135km / 4 hours approx)

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Drive to Munnar
  • Afternoon  visit tea / coffee plantation
  • Overnight at hotel.
 
Breakfast is at the hotel followed by a drive to Munnar, which is one of the most popular areas of tea in South India.    Layer after layer of tea gardens, mountain mist, waterfalls and forest sanctuaries make Munnar almost surrealistically beautiful.
Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands here is the Neelakkurinji, a flower which bathes the hills in blue colour once every twelve years. The Neelakkurinji, will bloom next in 2018. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India - Anamudi - which towers over 2695 M .
Overnight at the Hotel.
 
 

Day 5: In Munnar

  • Tea ./ coffee at the Hotel
  • Proceed to visit Eravikulam national park
  • On way back visit Tea Factory / Museum
  • Breakfast at the Hotel
  • Afternoon enjoy tea / coffee plantation visit  
  • Overnight at hotel
After an early tea / coffee proceed to visit Eravikulam National Park with your naturalist / guide. Also walk around the national park.   
Return to the Hotel for late breakfast. The rest of the morning is free to enjoy the panoramic view of the mountain from the Hotel itself.
This afternoon proceed for tea / coffee plantation visit around Munnar.
Optional:Mountain bilking / cycling tour can also be provided if you wish.
 
 

Day 6: Munnar - Periyar ((Drive: 160 kms / 5 hrs Approx)

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Drive to Thekkady
  • Evening Park visit by boat cruise
  • Overnight at hotel
 
After breakfast begin your overland journey to Periyar. Upon arrival check in to the hotel.
 
Later in the afternoon proceed to visit Periyar National Park by Boat cruise.
 
Overnight stay at the hotel.
 
 

Day 7: Periyar - Kumarakon (Drive: 165kms / 05 hrs approx)

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Morning visit Spice plantation
  • Drive to Kumarakom
  • Overnight at hotel
 
Morning after breakfast at the Hotel, proceed to enjoy a Guided Walk around Spice & Rubber Plantation tour to see various plants..
 
Later drive to Kumarakom. Upon arrival in Kumarakom check into the Hotel.
 
Situated on the bank of the Vembanad  Lake, Kumarakom is the most beautiful and picturesque backwater destination of Kerala, a town very famous for its rubber plantations and 15th century ancient churches. It's an enchantingly beautiful little paradise of mangrove forests, emerald green paddy fields and coconut groves interspersed with waterways and canals.
 
Kumarakom also has one of the finest bird sanctuaries of India which is spread across 14 acres and a favorite haunt of migratory birds - an ornithologist's paradise. Egrets, darters, herons, teal, waterfowl, cuckoo, wild duck and migratory birds like the Siberian stork that live there in flocks are a joy to behold. The best way to watch the birds of the Kumarakom sanctuary is a boat trip round the islands.
 
 

Day 8: In Kumarakom

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Day is free to enjoy backwater
  • Optional: enjoy Ayurveda treatment on own
  • Overnight on boat
 
Breakfast at the Hotel.
 
After breakfast you have a full day at leisure to enjoy your surroundings.
 
 

Day 9: Kumarakom - Alleppy by boat

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Morning bird watching tour
  • Later embark houseboat
  • Cruise on the backwater
  • Lunch and dinner on the houseboat
  • Overnight on boat
 
Early this morning enjoy a bird watching tour with your naturalist. Enjoy exploring the beautiful surroundings or spotting an exciting range of colorful water birds in the Kumarakom bird sanctuary. Boating and fishing facilities are also available at Kumarakom.
 
Return to the Hotel for breakfast.
 
After breakfast check out from the Hotel and transfer by small boat to the Jetty to board the Houseboat. Cruise through narrow lakes and canals towards Alleppey.
 
At night the boat is anchored at a beautiful and quiet part of the lake.
 
Lunch, dinner & overnight on the boat.
 
 

Day 10: Alleppey - Kovalam (Drive: 165 kms / 05 hrs approx)

  • Breakfast on board
  • Disembark in Alleppey
  • Drive to Kovalam
  • Evening is free  to relax on the beach
  • Overnight at hotel
 
Breakfast on board.
 
Later disembark the  houseboat and rejoin the car. Drive to Kovalam. The Journey will take approx. 5 hours to reach Kovalam.
 
On arrival check in to the Hotel and then the rest of the day is free to relax on the Kovalam Beach.
 
 

Day 11 - 15: In Kovalam

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Day at leisure
  • Relax on the beach
  • Overnight at hotel
 
Kovalam is one of the finest beach destinations of South India, famous for its clean and beautiful golden beaches and enchanting surroundings of swaying coconut palms.
 
is just 16 kms away from Trivandrum. Today Kovalam beach is known as the "Paradise of the South".  
 
Time to relax and enjoy the beach.
 
 

Day 15: Depart Kovalam / Trivandrum

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Depart to Trivandrum airport
In time transfer to Trivandrum airport to board the flight for onward destination.
