EUROPE Spain
****HOLIDAY SUGGESTION****
Attend the Cordoba Guitar Festival in Andalucia. During July the city of Cordoba comes alive with guitar music - whether big concerts (Mark Knopfler is booked this year) or just enjoying music in the squares and restaurants of the city. Highly recommended for a marvellous taste of Spain.
Spain is so much more than package tours and crowded beaches. It is still one of the most popular destinations for the British on holiday, but we are now looking to experience the “real” Spain rather than just looking for somewhere to lie in the sun.
Andalucia does have lovely beaches and plenty of holiday attractions – which are ideal when having a family holiday with young children. Water Parks are wonderful for a child-friendly day out – but so much nicer when you return in the evening to a private villa with a lovely pool, shady garden and a chilled glass of wine for the adults. We have a very good selection of villas, apartments and hotels. Of course, we also arrange car hire and provide information on the area in which you will be staying.
Catalunya is another firm favourite and has a beautiful coastline. Barcelona is ideal for a weekend break with fascinating architecture, plus great restaurants and hotels. We think the Catalunya Pyrenees are ideal for a summer holiday – often overlooked in favour of the coast. There is plenty to do and see, with good hotels and huge national parks in which to walk, cycle, ride horses, or just explore the small villages.
Suggestion: fly into Santander, rent a car and drive slowly through the Pyrenees for a week - stopping at Paradors or small hotels. Then continue to the coast for a week in a villa or hotel to relax. Fly home from Barcelona, Gerona or Reus.
Many of the central cities of Spain are wonderful for short breaks and can be timed to experience music festivals, ferias, food or wine festivals. Our favourites include the Cordoba Guitar Festival, or just exploring Segovia or Salamanca.
We are agents for the Spanish Paradors. The Paradors usually occupy the best location in the area and they work perfectly for driving tours within Spain. Taking the ferry to Santander or Bilbao with your car and then exploring the North of Spain, staying at Paradors, exploring the countryside and tasting some of the excellent local wines is highly recommended.
Please ask us for further details on any of the above or to put together an itinerary and quote just for you.
